The FMR & Fairbourne Railway (1946 - 1983) issued paper tickets that were printed by the Bell Punch Company and supplied in blocks of 500 held together by a steel staple.
See Guard/Conductor Eqpt for an example ticket rack loaded with tickets.
Tickets were in various colours, to indicate whether they were for Adult or Child, Single or Return fares and to indicate the station from which they were issued. Child tickets were printed with a "C" or "CR", depending on whether they were singles or returns.
All tickets were clipped by the Guard at the station of issue and for Returns, also at the station of departure for the return leg.
So the Guard had to understand all this as well as being able to compute all the various combinations that could be asked for at any station & handle the money. Bad enough in post 17th February 1971 but a potential nightmare back at the time these tickets were issued !!
However, if you know what you are looking at, these tickets carry a wealth of information. The Numbers were just that, serial numbers for the block/ticket and had no other relevance.
